- Feds turn up heat in Martha Stewart case.

''It's sort of the American way to go up and down the ladder, maybe several times in a lifetime,'' Martha Stewart said. ''And I've had a real long up ... And now I've had a long way down.''

Even though I'm only 17, I have a glimpse of what Martha Stewart means, with my own ups and downs.

Any artist like Martha, who refuses to sell out, and who instead creates her own media, is especially vulnerable. The future for artists is in taking control of their own media destiny, and the powerful forces of Big Media want to stop it at all costs.

Once these powerful forces line up against you, you'd better get ready for the worst.

Good luck, Martha.

Are you serious about Martha? She bought stock on an inside deal, and tried to get out of it on an insider deal (knowing Sam Waksal, the CEO)--leaving some sucker to take the loss for her. I'm not arguing she should be crucified, and certainly MSLO (her company) has gotten walloped in the plunging stock value. Still, as a stockbroker, she knows the rule of the game, and it sure looks like she violated them. It also shows the problem of a brand being tied to the image of the person. When the shine comes off the image (she looks damn greedy), the brand is in trouble. Posted by: Joe Baby | MoronWatch, http://www.moronwatch.com/blog on February 1, 2003 04:12 PM
